Monthly Archives: September 2010

Besides lots of rain this week Squid have been busy busy attending parties, seminars, meetings, taking new stockists on board and trying to prepare for the run up to Christmas! (Yes we said it, it’s on its way!)

London Fashion Week has kept the city pumping! We started the week off attending; HEMYCA’s ‘OF Dark/ Of Light’ S/S 11 showcase on a luxurious private members club ‘The Yacht’ on Temple Pier followed by a star-studded official after-party at new nightclub phenomenon LUXX in London’s Mayfair.

The collection, as you can see below in the photographs was showcased by a series of models, changing infrequently allowing guests to walk around and between, allowing us to really admire Helen and Myra’s amazing creations.

The British Library hosted the event Ingenious Britons! Guest speakers included Natalie Ellis; Road Refresher- who has invented the one and onnly non spill travel dog bowl,  Mike Spindle- invented the most revolutionary wheelchair on the market Trekinetic Wheelchair ,  Jim Shaikh- The ideal solution to all parents the Yoomi self heating baby bottle, and Micheal Pritchard with his genius Life Saver Bottle inspired by the disgraceful lack of water for people in 3rd World countries. Amazing and extremely inspiring evening! Some very clever cookies out there!

We now have our own official Freight Forwarder – very excited to have Terry as a new very much needed and wanted memeber of the Squid Team!

Last, but certainly not least we have a few new stockists! Seattle Art Museum-USA, Public Romance – Ireland and Discovery-24 – Hamburg.

Wishing you a wonderful fun filled weekend!

Maison et Objet - Now! Section (who sees the escargot:-)

We made a short trip to Paris to get inspired for future designs, scouting out Maison et Objet and a couple of meetings (not to mention the red wine, cheese, steak tartare (Emma-Jayne is vegatarian) and escargots.

We discovered some cool shops such as Toyko Palace BlackBlock with it’s Marc Jacobs T-shirts. Le Printemps product design section in Centre Pompidou is impressive (why are all museums closed on a Tuesday?) and just next to Louvres Pyramid (the one pointing downwards) we discovered a hidden gem in Carrousel du Louvre perfect for the Squidarellas!

Centre Pompidou built by Italian architect Renzo Piano and the British architect couple Rogers

Maison et Objet fair was ‘manifique’, the  quality of design was mind blowing and we can not wait to transform our exhibition stand into an interactive gallery space in January 2011. The BEDG (British European design Group) and UKTI were of great help – thank you.

In the NOW! section MateriO Labor exhibited our and many more innovative new material innovations. Sign up for their free newsletter on: http://www.materio.fr/en/us/join. This October a book will be launched called, Materiology (The Squidders will be in it): the creative industry’s guide to materials and technologies, hope the launch will go well, Elodie!

If you look for a material library - www.materio.com SquidLondon's material in Materio Book!

Last week the Squidders attended the launch party of Bracket Creative. Bracket is an agency who runs a network of talented creative people, with all the skills needed to create a project from start to finish. Congratulation to Alison Coward – who is the founder and the headhunter of bringing those freelancers together into one room for one week where the outcome is a creative solution and a finished product to take to market.

Who does not need Bracket Creative, we ask ourselves…we have hundreds of projects we want to implement.

Here is the result of Brackets first 1 week project – see by yourself:

P.S. Thanks for the sugar rush – those cup cakes were delicious  :-)

Our lovely friend Cleo invited the Squidders and Beauchamp’s (gorgeous belts where you can ajust size and add your scarves) as special guests along to sell our Squidarellas with her CleoB shoes to the beautiful country side near Chester where we set up our show room in Bolesworth castle.

Guests blown away by the beauty of the accessories

Think red-beige striped wall paper, circus shaped rooms and a staggering collection of modern and classic art pieces and statues, there was space for creativity in showcasing and if the statue would not have has that giant feet she would have also worn a Cleo’s shoe. We had some gorgeous models presenting our accessories in 5inch heels having had their hair styled by Tommy’s made them even taller.

We had a fabulous wine…eh we mean time – red, white and colourful time. Thanks so much Cleo for organising this. And you know what? Despite sunshine we sold out (I mean as much as we were able to carry in a suitcase all the way to Bolesworth, we have more designs to launch this October!

...and of course our Squidarellas - customers were already thinking about their christmas presents!
